Super Mario 64, released in 1996 as the first main-series 3D Mario game, and later remade for the DS and for Virtual Console, is the best-selling game for the Nintendo 64. It was and has been successful, revolutionary, and nostalgic for many gamers, in part due to the new 3D graphics. Super Mario 64 is often used for TASes, bloopers, and machinima through the use of emulators such as Project64.
When available in the SM64 engine, OnyxKing uses locations from the Mushroom Kingdom, painting worlds, Bowser's traps, or even custom maps. Many of the main characters are also recorded in SM64, and most human characters use Mario's model with alternate texture files.
